What To Expect

The following steps are the probable steps you will take while building your home with Northern Huron Homes, if you have any questions, reach out to us and we will be happy to help you out!

Step 1

Reach out to us – shoot us an email or stop into the office to discuss the beginning information for your project. If you are looking for land, have land and want to develop, or are ready to bring in your home, we can help you at every step of the way. We will get some preliminary information from you regarding your desires and time frame, and start putting together an estimated cost of your total project.

Step 2

Review the information from Northern Huron Homes and decide which type of home and floorpan best suit your needs. We are an authorized licensed builder of General Housing Corporation and can make final adjustments to their plans to meet your needs. We can email or print physical information whether you contact us online or stop in to our office. If you find a floor plan that mostly fits your needs but may need a slight adjustment here or there, we can absolutely see if that is possible, just let us know!

Step 3

Visit the General Housing Corporation location where your home will be built. For plant tours, an appointment is preferred but we are proud of the work they do and are happy to show it off. Sneak a peak at the models available to see both the quality of our work and knowledge of our staff. We can answer any questions and show. you samples of the various materials you can choose from.

Step 4

Review material choices and design your home using our web site.  Or if you prefer, you can make these choices in person while visiting us or a GHC authorized licensed builder in your area. At this point, we can provide a more accurate estimated cost of your total project.

Step 5

With the information you’ve obtained up to this point, you determine how you intend to finance the project.  If needed, you obtain the necessary financing.

Step 6

Next we will typically inspect your building site, if we have not already at this point.  You would typically discuss home placement and any special considerations such as setback requirements, drainage, any required tear downs, and other matters of concern that might affect the process.

Step 7

Review the final choices you’ve made in designing your home.  Shortly thereafter, a firm quote is normally provided to you based on your final choices and plan adjustments.

Step 8

Once all the details are finalized, you will enter into a contract with Northern Huron Homes, the GHC authorized licensed builder.  You would generally provide a down payment at this time.  After obtaining the proper permits and approvals, the builder will then sub contract with GHC to begin building your new home.

Step 9

General Housing Corporation orders the special materials for your project so they can begin building your new home.  While GHC is working on the main structure of your home, the licensed builder will typically be working on preparing your building site and getting the foundation (crawl space or basement) completed.

Step 10

GHC delivers modules to site.

Step 11

Northern Huron Homes finishes up and manages additional contractors until your home is move in ready from insulation to finish work. Typically there will be a few walk through opportunities throughout this time, this will allow you to get a sense of the space, make sure your choices on materials meet your expectations, and be apart of the process.

Step 12

Welcome Home! Receive your keys and start living your dream!
